A resident of the Crimean village of Uvarovo was convicted of the death of his nephew, who burned in the man’s house due to a faulty boiler.

CrimeaPRESS reports:

A man at his place of residence in a private house in the village of Uvarovo operated a solid fuel boiler in violation of the technical conditions for the installation and operation of the chimney to the boiler. The heat generator was installed in the bathroom, which is prohibited by the requirements of building codes and regulations; it was also established that there was no supply and exhaust ventilation with defects in the chimney pipe.

In March of this year, late in the evening, the defendant gave the use of the bathroom to his nephew. At that moment, the boiler was working in the bathroom and there was a strong wind outside, as a result of which the 15-year-old teenager who was taking a shower died. According to the expert’s conclusions, the cause of death of the minor was acute carbon monoxide poisoning. The actions of the defendant were qualified by the court under Part 1 of Art. 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation causing death by negligence. During the judicial investigation, the accused fully admitted his guilt in the act charged to him. Having comprehensively studied the case materials, taking into account the circumstances of the crime, information about the identity of the defendant, the Leninsky District Court of the Republic of Crimea imposed a sentence of one year of restriction of freedom— reported the press service of the court.

The verdict did not enter into legal force.
