The Alushta city prosecutor’s office approved an indictment in a criminal case against a 65-year-old resident of the village of Partenit. He is charged under Part 1 of Art. 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (causing death by negligence).
According to investigators, in December 2023, the accused, while intoxicated, fell asleep at his place of residence, leaving an unextinguished cigarette. As a result, there was a fire and smoke in the apartment. The man, who was visiting the accused, died at the scene of the incident from poisoning by combustion products— reported the prosecutor’s office.
With the approved indictment, the criminal case was sent to the Alushta City Court for consideration on the merits. The defendant faces punishment of up to 2 years in prison.
