A resident of Yalta “earned” six years in prison for collusion with the SBU

CrimeaPRESS reports:

I still got off easy, I was lucky that I didn’t have time to do anything.

The Supreme Court of the Republic of Crimea sentenced a resident of Yalta to six years in prison for conspiring with the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) through messengers and trying to interfere with a special military operation.

The court, taking into account the position of the state prosecutor, sentenced the man to six years in prison to be served in a general regime correctional colony with further restriction of freedom for 1 year and a fine of 500 thousand rublessays the message from the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Crimea.

The Yalta resident was found guilty of conspiring with representatives of the SBU between September 2022 and April 2023. Keeping in touch with them via messengers, he expressed his readiness to cooperate and suggested ways in which he intended to interfere with the special military operation. However, his actions were stopped by employees of the Russian FSB department for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.

How explained in the regional department of the FSB, male, born in 1980, moved to Crimea in 2010 from the Volyn region of Ukraine. After the reunification of Crimea with the Russian Federation, he received Russian citizenship.

However, as the investigation established, he maintained anti-Russian sentiments and openly declared hatred of our country,” the FSB emphasized.

It is noted that the man was detained along with an acquaintance who also collaborated with the SBU. After the start of the SVO, they, on their own initiative, came into contact with the Ukrainian special services, to whom they transmitted information about the socio-political, economic and military situation on the peninsula. In addition, they offered to photograph and film objects of the Russian Armed Forces and expressed their readiness to commit sabotage.

The FSB added that this is the first verdict under Article 275.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Cooperation on a confidential basis with a foreign state, international or foreign organization.” A court decision on the second defendant in the case is expected in the near future.
