A resident of Yalta will appear in court on charges of car theft (“wrongful taking of a car or other vehicle without the purpose of theft”). According to the preliminary investigation authorities, the man, being intoxicated, while visiting his friend, after the latter went to bed, took the keys to the victim’s car and went to the store to buy alcoholic beverages.
While moving along one of the streets in the city of Yalta, the accused allowed the car to leave the roadway, followed by overturning and the vehicle catching fire. The illegal actions of the accused caused the victim damage in the amount of more than 500 thousand rubles— reported the Crimean prosecutor’s office.
The man was detained by police. According to Part 1 of Art. 166 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the hijacker faces imprisonment for up to 5 years. “Plus” compensation for damage.
