A resident of Yevpatoria who beat his friend to death received a fair verdict
CrimeaPRESS reports:
The Supreme Court of the Republic of Crimea considered a criminal case against a resident of Yevpatoria who beat his friend to death. Earlier, the court of first instance found the man guilty under Part 4 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm resulting in the death of the victim), Part 1 of Article 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal possession of ammunition for firearms).
The court established that at the end of December last year, the defendant, while at the residence of his acquaintance, was drinking alcoholic beverages with the latter. During the conflict, the man punched and kicked the victim in the head, torso and limbs. The man died from the injuries a short time later. During a search of the defendant’s residence, 7 cartridges were found.
The court sentenced the man to 4 years and 8 months in a maximum security penal colony. Due to the leniency of the sentence, the state prosecutor appealed the verdict.— the prosecutor’s office reported.
The appellate court agreed with the prosecutor’s arguments, increasing the sentence to 7 years of imprisonment in a maximum security penal colony.
