A school for patients with psoriasis operates in Simferopol
CrimeaPRESS reports:
In Simferopol, on the basis of the State Budgetary Healthcare Institution of the Republic of Crimea “Clinical Dermatovenerological Dispensary”, the first lesson of the “School for Patients with Psoriasis” was held. The event was attended by more than 50 listeners — patients diagnosed with psoriasis and parents of children suffering from this disease. The speakers of the lectures were the chief freelance specialist in dermatovenerology and cosmetology of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Crimea Olga Pritulo, the chief physician of the State Budgetary Institution of Healthcare of the Republic of Crimea «Clinical Dermatovenerological Dispensary» Yulia Lebedeva, the chief freelance rheumatologist of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Crimea Andrey Petrov, a dermatovenerologist of the State Budgetary Healthcare Institution of the Republic of Crimea «Clinical Dermatovenerological Dispensary» venereal dispensary» Irina Rychkova.
The main goal of the “School for Patients with Psoriasis” is to increase patient awareness of the causes of the disease and the factors that provoke relapse, as well as modern methods of therapy aimed at reducing the frequency of inflammation and preventing complications. Particular attention during the classes is paid to the issues of developing the right attitude towards one’s own health, as well as the topic of social adaptation.
Psoriasis is a chronic non-infectious disease in which accelerated formation of cells in the stratum corneum of the skin occurs against the background of an inflammatory reaction, that is, against a background of impaired immunity. The causes of the disease today are not fully understood, however, it is known that heredity is a factor determining the etiology of psoriasis. The trigger for the development of the disease can be stressful situations, previous infections, surgical interventions, pregnancy, childbirth, the use of certain drugs, and so on. In children, the disease most often occurs during puberty, or in preschool age under conditions of increased educational load that is not appropriate for age.,” the press service of the chief freelance specialist in dermatovenereology and cosmetology of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Crimea quotes Olga Pritulo.
The professor noted that today psoriasis is an incurable disease, but there is highly effective therapy designed to stop the inflammatory process and increase the duration of the inter-relapse period. These are genetically engineered biological drugs that are prescribed by a dermatologist taking into account the patient’s individual indications and after consultation with a rheumatologist.
Psoriasis is not only a skin disease, but also a joint disease. Without proper treatment, the disease can affect internal organs and lead to disability of the patient. Such a process can develop in either a year or five years. Therefore, it is extremely important that patients are as informed as possible about their disease — its manifestations, complications, proper care of inflammatory areas, dietary restrictions, everyday life, and so on. As part of the “School for Patients with Psoriasis” all these issues will be covered— said Olga Pritulo.
