A scientific and practical conference “The Nuremberg Trials: History and Modernity” opened in Yalta

CrimeaPRESS reports:

The opening of the VIII International Scientific Forum “Nuremberg Trials: History and Modernity”, dedicated to the 78th anniversary of the trial of war criminals of Nazi Germany, took place in Yalta.

On behalf of the State Council of the Republic of Crimea, the first vice-speaker of the Crimean parliament, Efim Fiks, addressed the participants and guests of the forum:

The Great Patriotic War became the greatest tragedy for the Soviet people. Our duty is to preserve the truth about it and prevent attempts to revise the results of the Nuremberg trial, to lay the blame for inciting a worldwide military conflagration on the countries and peoples that were subjected to the treacherous attack of the Hitlerite military machine and suffered the greatest casualties as a result, to underestimate the role of our country in achieving a common victory over Nazism.

In his speech, the vice speaker of the Crimean parliament noted that the Nuremberg trials still retain their historical significance. His decisions are especially relevant today, when Nazi ideas and values are openly being propagated, cynical attempts are being made to equate victims and executioners, and to elevate Nazis and their henchmen to the rank of heroes.

All this insults the memory of millions of victims and seriously threatens the fundamental principles of human rights protection. These brutal crimes were given an unequivocal assessment by the Nuremberg Military Tribunal — there is and cannot be any justification or forgiveness for them. Both current and future generations must understand the monstrous consequences of condoning Nazism, preserve historical truth, and resist all attempts to revise our country’s contribution to the Great Victorysaid Efim Fix.

He also noted the importance of holding a conference that brought together representatives of government authorities, scientific and expert circles and wished the conference participants productive work, interesting discussions and success.

The main practical task of the conference will be to develop recommendations to government authorities, scientific and educational organizations, as well as civil society institutions regarding the popularization of the history of the 20th century, the correct assessment of historical facts, support for the authority of international law and the importance of reliable information about the results of the Second World War, which is now being attempted rewrite

Organizers of the forum: the University of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation, the State Council of the Republic of Crimea, the Crimean regional branch of the Russian Bar Association and the Black Sea Association of International Cooperation.

This is already the VIII conference, which is being held with the aim of popularizing knowledge about the true results of the Second World War and preventing revision, as well as belittling the decisions of the Nuremberg Tribunal in the context of modern international law.
