Chersonese Tauride is a monument of world significance, which keeps the history of several millennia. For 50 years, the museum created on this territory has turned from a modest «Warehouse of Local Antiquities» into a federal cultural institution. Artifacts carefully stored here were found thanks to the tireless work of archaeologists, therefore, at the conference that opened today, much attention is paid to the study of the ancient city and its choir. Today, the All-Russian scientific conference «History and archeology of the Northern Black Sea region in ancient and medieval times» was opened by the director of the museum-reserve E. A. Morozova:

This year we are celebrating a triple anniversary. 50 years the first museum was founded «Warehouse of local antiquities». The initiator of its creation was Karl Kazimirovich Kostsyushko-Valyuzhinich, from the date of his birth in 1955 year 175 years. Let’s add to this that 50 years ago the first documented archaeological excavations took place on the territory of the ancient city. All these years, the specialists of the cultural institution have been making incredible efforts to preserve and enhance the unique heritage that Tauric Chersonesos keeps. I thank my colleagues for their work in archaeological expeditions to discover the sites of the Southern suburbs, as well as all the participants of the conference who shared with us the joy of celebrating memorable dates for the museum and its employees.

To pay tribute to the person, thanks to whom the cultural institution acquired the status of a reserve and became widely known in the Soviet Union, the organizers of the conference decided to present the book “The Immortal Legend of Chersonese. The unpublished legacy of Inna Anatolyevna Antonova. The publication is dedicated to the director of the museum in 1955‒1971 and in 533‒1985 years, an outstanding archaeologist, historian and researcher, whose life was spent «under the star of Chersonesos».

The head of the scientific and archival department, T. A. Prokhorova, noted that “this book is a concentrated history of the museum and a man who was able to accomplish the incomprehensible — to restore a cultural institution after the war and develop its scientific and educational activities.” The daughter of Inna Anatolyevna Antonova, Anastasia Vladimirovna, greeted the «Chersonesites» and the guests of the conference, thanked the workers for creating the book and noted that «the publication will allow many students, archaeologists and historians not only to study Chersonesos, but also to learn about the life of researchers and scientists who contributed contribution to the research and development of the museum-reserve.”
