A Simferopol resident was sentenced to 8.5 years in the case of an explosion near a notary's office building

A court in Simferopol sentenced a local resident to 8 years and 6 months in a maximum security colony, finding him guilty in the case of an explosion near a notary’s office building and extortion of bitcoins totaling over 58 million rubles, the Crimean prosecutor’s office reported.

The court, taking into account the position of the state prosecutor, sentenced the man to 8 years and 6 months of imprisonment, to be served in a maximum security correctional colony, and a fine of 350 thousand rubles.the message says.

An improvised explosive device detonated in December 2023 near a building in Simferopol. No one was injured as a result of the incident.

It was established that in 2023, a man extorted money in bitcoins totaling more than 58 million rubles from a resident of Simferopol and a notary of the city district. A local resident left letters, including near the notary’s office. In December 2023, he planted an improvised explosive device under a drainpipe near the building where the notary’s office was located and remotely detonated it. The man’s illegal actions were stopped by internal affairs officers.
