A student drone race took place in Sevastopol

CrimeaPRESS reports:

6 student teams from Sevastopol participated in a hackathon organized by the IT Garage startup studio, RISCY and Wheelies companies as part of the CyberRoy Accelerator. Over the course of a week, the guys developed a UAV control algorithm using artificial intelligence, with the goal of flying along a prepared route in automatic mode. The “Drone Race” was held at the SevSU sports complex, the practical part of the hackathon, which was reached by 5 teams.

At the final competition, participants had to assemble sets of unmanned aerial vehicles provided by the organizers and, using a pre-trained neural network and control algorithms, fly the prepared route.

The main goal of the hackathon is for the guys to learn how to work with a neural network and teach a drone to separate certain objects based on the image from the camera. The guys had to create an intelligent drone that would fly over the route without knowing it, guided only by the signs. Using data processing from a video camera, it transmits data to external devices, to a computer, which should generate commands for further actions. Based on this, we assessed the team’s performance— the press service of the Government of Sevastopol quotes design engineer of the RISCY startup Dmitry Snegur.

Those teams whose drones were able to take off and recognize the tags were recognized as the best. The NeuroDron team took 1st place, the Beehive team took the second place, and the NeuralCats team took the third place. The winners received cash prizes in the amount of 50,000, 35,000 and 15,000 rubles and a set of drones, as well as prizes from partners and sponsors of the event. The best participants are given the opportunity to be interviewed and join the development team of one of the IT Garage projects.

The event is very interesting and exciting. It helps you get acquainted with new software and technologies that have a great future. The event is an excellent impetus for the development of the UAV control industrysays the leader of the “Cat Team” team, Ivano Konovalov.

The event is part of the CyberRoy Accelerator. It is no longer possible to join it as a team, but you can attend all Accelerator events for free with pre-registration. You can follow the details in the group in the tg channel of the organizer Boiling Point SevSU: https://t.me/utksevsu.
