A study of the Pallas plane tree was carried out in Sevastopol Ternovka
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Today in Ternovka, a study was conducted on the Pallas plane tree for the presence of diseases and pests, and the vital condition of the tree was assessed. It was planted in the 1790s, when travelers brought a seedling and presented it to Academician Peter Simonovich Pallas. Now the height of the tree is 28 meters, the diameter is about 3 meters, the girth of the trunk is about 7 meters. The area where the plane tree grows is recognized as a specially protected natural area of regional significance — a natural monument of regional significance «Plane Pallas».
Within the framework of the state program «Ecology and environmental protection of the city of Sevastopol», work is currently underway to determine the complex state of the tree, namely its crown, assess the condition of the root paws, the presence of signs of diseases and pests, and assess the vital state of the tree. The soil was analyzed for the content of solid metals. These works are carried out in order to develop methods and recommendations aimed at preserving, improving and preventing the occurrence of diseases of the specified tree.— quotes the press service of the Government of Sevastopol senior researcher at the Institute of Biology of the Southern Seas Vladimir Alexandrov.
The research results will be ready in November 2023.
The Pallas sycamore is listed on the National Register of Old Growth Trees. The life expectancy of such trees can be up to a thousand years. In addition, since 2018, the plane tree has the all-Russian status «Tree — a monument of wildlife.»
