CrimeaPRESS reports:

The money will be returned to the victims.

In Sevastopol, operatives in hot pursuit detained a criminal courier who defrauded two pensioners and stole 998 thousand rubles. The man is suspected of stealing money under the fraudulent scheme “Your relative got into an accident.”

Almost at the same time, two elderly residents of Sevastopol received a call from unknown persons, introduced themselves as law enforcement officers and reported that their close relatives were responsible for road accidents, and in order to resolve all issues they urgently needed to pay a large sum. A courier, whose face was hidden by a medical mask, came to the victims to collect money.

Criminal investigation officers quickly located the attacker and detained him immediately after visiting the next victim. During a personal search, the money that he stole from women in the amount of 998 thousand rubles was discovered and confiscated from the scammers’ accomplice. The withdrawn money will be returned to pensioners— reported the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Crimea.

The detainee was a 47-year-old resident of Rostov-on-Don, who had been repeatedly convicted of property crimes and had arrived in Sevastopol to make criminal money. A criminal case has been initiated against the detainee under Part 2 and Part 3 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Fraud”, he faces up to six years in prison. The defendant was taken into custody.
