Investigators from the investigative department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Leninsky district have completed a criminal investigation into a trolleybus driver accused of causing grievous harm to the health of an elderly man as a result of violating traffic rules. A traffic accident occurred on the afternoon of February 23 last year at the controlled intersection “General Ostryakov Avenue — Pavel Silaev Street — Marshal Biryuzov Street”— reported the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Sevastopol.

According to investigators, the 34-year-old driver, driving a trolleybus, turned from Pavel Silaev Street onto General Ostryakov Avenue and, not being convinced of the safety of the maneuver, did not give way to an 80-year-old pedestrian who was finishing crossing the road at a controlled pedestrian crossing.

As a result of a gross violation of the Traffic Rules, a vehicle collided with an elderly man, who received injuries that were classified as causing grievous bodily harm. Eyewitnesses to the tragic accident immediately called an ambulance and the injured pedestrian was urgently hospitalized in a medical facilitynoted the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

An inspection carried out by police showed that the trolleybus driver was sober at the time of the traffic accident.

As part of the preliminary investigation, police interviewed eyewitnesses of the road accident, assigned and carried out forensic, automotive and other studies.

The accused admitted her guilt in full for the crime committed. In the near future, the materials of the criminal case with the indictment approved by the prosecutor’s office of the city of Sevastopol will be sent to the court. The sanction of the incriminated article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of up to two years.
