A unique operation in Crimea: KFU clinic doctors removed a giant ovarian cyst
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Surgeons of the Clinical Medical Multidisciplinary Center of St. Luke of the Crimean Federal University removed a giant ovarian cyst weighing 3.5 kilograms. As Vyacheslav Burdyugov, an oncologist at St. Luke’s KMMC, said, a 75-year-old patient from Sevastopol did not seek medical help and was not examined for a long time.
The patient had no complaints, but for two years she observed a gradual increase in the abdomen. She underwent an abdominal ultrasound and a CT scan, which revealed the presence of a cystoma in the ovaries— the press service of the university Vyacheslav Burdyugov quotes.
To remove the cyst, which occupied the entire abdominal cavity and squeezed the intestines and ureters, specialists of the Clinical Medical Multidisciplinary Center of St. Luke KFU undertook.
It was a rather voluminous neoplasm, which is extremely rare. The risk of rupture was very high. The operation was successful and lasted two hours. A team of urologists preliminarily stented the ureters, after which surgeons and oncologists removed the mass— notes the head of the surgical department of the KMMTS St. Luke KFU, Professor Vyacheslav Mikhailichenko.
The next day, the patient was transferred from intensive care to the general ward. Now the woman feels well and will soon be discharged. We remind you that regular medical examinations and medical examinations allow you to identify various pathologies at an early stage.
