A unique operation was carried out in Sevastopol — ammunition was removed from the body of a wounded soldier. Worked in bulletproof vests
CrimeaPRESS reports:
And this is exactly the case when the success of the work was determined by competent interdepartmental interaction: doctors and pyrotechnicians of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations. Having received a message about the discovery of ammunition at the Pirogov Naval Clinical Hospital, employees of the Specialized Detachment of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations for Sevastopol could not even imagine what kind of non-standard situation they would encounter on the spot. The dangerous object was located in the patient’s thigh.
The machine gunner was wounded during the air strike — he was attacked by an enemy drone. Analyzing what happened, he says: he was born not in a shirt, but in a bulletproof vest. Doctors had to act in bulletproof vests and helmets – literally. Specialists from the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations gave them protective equipment. Other security measures were also taken.
Patrol posts were set up on the hospital grounds to prevent patients from entering the possible radius of action of this munition. The evacuation of patients from the wards located above the operating room and in neighboring departments was organized“, said Denis Belousov, a traumatologist at the Naval Clinical Hospital named after N. I. Pirogov.
However, surgery could begin only after determining the type and condition of the explosive object. For the first time in their practice, Sevastopol pyrotechnicians of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations identified ammunition based on X-ray images. They established that they were dealing with a fragmentation grenade.
Together with the explosion experts of the Black Sea Fleet, we came to the conclusion that it was VOG-17. It was decided that doctors would remove him. We conducted a serious briefing on safety measures: we talked about the design and operating principles of the ammunition, and explained how to move it. They warned that it is necessary to avoid the use of metal tools. And, of course, we were constantly nearby, ready to respond.– notes the head of the Specialized detachment of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the city of Sevastopol, Nikolai Tiselsky.
With extreme caution, doctors removed the dangerous foreign object from the patient’s body. Employees of the emergency department took the ammunition out of the operating room in an armored container and handed it over to their colleagues from the National Guard for destruction. The fighter’s life was saved thanks to the courage and determination of professionals.
