CrimeaPRESS reports:
The Supreme Court of the Republic of Crimea issued a verdict in absentia in a criminal case against a resident of the region. He was found guilty under Art. 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (high treason).
The court found that the defendant joined a separate motorized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in February 2022, having undergone special training, receiving a military uniform and firearms. Since this period, he has taken part in hostilities against the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
The actions of the defendant were identified by employees of the Russian FSB Directorate for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.
The defendant fled from the preliminary investigation authorities and was put on the international wanted list.
The court, taking into account the position of the state prosecutor, sentenced the man to 18 years in prison to be served in a maximum security correctional colony and further restriction of freedom for a period of 1 year 9 months— reported the Crimean prosecutor’s office.
The verdict did not enter into legal force.
