On the eve of the celebration of the 240th anniversary of the founding of Sevastopol, the regional division of the international information agency «Russia Today» in Simferopol organized a video bridge Sevastopol — Simferopol — Moscow on the topic «Sevastopol: the heroic history of one city.»

The participants of the event in Sevastopol were the Senator of the Russian Federation, Deputy Chairman of the Committee of the Federation Council on Science, Education and Culture Ekaterina Altabayeva and Deputy Governor Alexander Kulagin, in Simferopol — Deputy Director of the Institute of Social Sciences and International Relations of the Sevastopol State University, Associate Professor of the Department of «General History and World culture” Vadim Khapaev and chairman of the public organization “Historical club “Tauric Sevastopol”, candidate of historical sciences Vadim Prokopenkov, representatives of the media in Moscow.

During the video bridge, the historical significance of Sevastopol was noted — as the base of the Black Sea Fleet, the center for the development of culture and science of the Russian Federation. The speakers also answered questions about how the main Black Sea outpost of the country is developing today, what socio-economic projects are being implemented, how the historical past of Sevastopol affects its present and future.

The conversation began with the question of why President Vladimir Putin called Sevastopol the main patriotic capital of the country and how this is connected with the glorious past of the Hero City.

Sevastopol, in my opinion, is a city of special fortitude and the soul of Russia. The latest history of Sevastopol can be described as a hyper-breakthrough development, because the city is developing at a very high pace. In the shortest possible time, problems with electricity and water supply were solved. Over the past two years, our Governor Mikhail Razvozhaev has addressed the President, and very quickly all the tasks were solved. The social infrastructure is developing at a hypertempo. Sevastopol, having returned to its native harbor, has become a point of attraction for many Russians, we are seeing a high migration influx. Schools, kindergartens, polyclinics, feldsher and obstetric stations are being built, more than ten thousand units of modern high-tech medical equipment are operating in the city— emphasizes Alexander Kulagin.

He also said that the number of social support measures in Sevastopol significantly exceeds the figure in other regions.

In turn, Ekaterina Altabaeva noted that such a project as excursions around Sevastopol was included in the cultural and educational program for Russian schoolchildren. Funds from the federal budget will be allocated for its implementation.

Thus, children will be able to see Tauric Chersonese, various monuments of the Great Patriotic War and other cultural and historical objects of the city.

Historians Vadim Khapaev and Vadim Prokopenkov stressed that the legendary past of Sevastopol has a great influence on its present and future. The best representatives of military professions, talented teachers, doctors, and scientists have always come to the city. Every emperor of the Russian Empire always had a special attitude and attention to Sevastopol, and the city was not called the “city of kings” for nothing.
