A water sports palace named after Galina Prozumenshchikova was opened in Sevastopol

CrimeaPRESS reports:

On December 29, the Governor of the city of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozhaev, and the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Government, Dmitry Chernyshenko, opened the Aquatic Sports Palace — the second stage of the sports complex named after the 200th anniversary of Sevastopol. This is one of the largest facilities commissioned this year.

A swimming pool for professional sports and amateur swimming and a rehabilitation center were built on the territory of the sports complex. The work was carried out within the framework of the state program “Development of Physical Culture and Sports”.

The palace was named after the Sevastopol athlete, Olympic champion Galina Prozumenshchikova.

The Aquatic Sports Palace is a long-awaited facility for Sevastopol, which would not be possible without federal support. A sports complex has appeared in our city, adapted for all water sports. The Diving Federation has already planned to hold all-Russian competitions next year. A new sport for Sevastopol, but already in demand, will be actively developed — synchronized swimming: we already have coaches for this. At the request of the sports community, we decided to name the palace after the Sevastopol Olympic champion Galina Prozumenshchikova. Informally, our athlete was called the Golden Fish — and today we agreed that we will name the sports school that will practice in this pool– quotes the press service of the Government of Sevastopol Mikhail Razvozhaev.

The palace is equipped with a swimming pool measuring 50×21 meters, there is a swimming bath, a diving tower, stands for 500 spectators, a dry swimming hall, a choreography hall, and gyms.

President Vladimir Putin has set a goal to increase the share of Russians who regularly engage in sports to 70% by 2030. A landmark object for the city, which we inaugurated today, will work towards its achievement. The sports and recreation complex named after the 200th anniversary of Sevastopol was built as part of the federal project “Sport is the norm of life.” It will become a base for training athletes and a platform for various competitions. Its launch will help popularize a healthy lifestyle and mass involvement of young people in sportsnotes Dmitry Chernyshenko.

The premises of the rehabilitation and recovery center are located in a separate block on the first and second floors of the swimming pool building. There are medical offices, rooms for physical therapy, ECG and ultrasound rooms, massage rooms. There are elevators and all the necessary infrastructure for people with limited mobility. Employees of the rehabilitation and recovery center will provide medical support to Sevastopol sports teams and students of sports schools. Their tasks will also include medical support for official sporting events and the organization of sports medicine for city residents.

The reconstructed sports complex includes a stadium with stands for 2000 spectators, a field with natural grass, running tracks, sectors for high and long jumps, sectors for discus, javelin and shot throwing, a sector for pole vaulting, a volleyball court, a multi-purpose playground basketball, handball, mini-football. There are also four clay courts, as well as collapsible stands for 200 seats.

The sports complex can accommodate 440 athletes per shift (stadium: 256 athletes per shift, swimming pool: 120 athletes per shift in the pool; 64 athletes in the gym per shift). The total number of spectator seats is 2700 (the number of seats in the stands of the stadium is 2000, the stands of the tennis courts are 200, the seats in the stands in the swimming pool are 500).

For reference:

The sports complex named after the 200th anniversary of Sevastopol was opened in 1985. In 2004, it closed for renovations due to its poor condition. In 2019, a contract was signed for the reconstruction of the sports complex.

By 2021, during the first stage of reconstruction, an athletics stadium with stands for 2,000 seats, four tennis courts, universal sports grounds, and a car park were built. The second stage of reconstruction, completed in December 2023, included the construction of a swimming pool building and a rehabilitation center.
