A working meeting on cooperation in the field of international legal assistance was held in Sevastopol

On October 6, 2023, the Office of the Ministry of Justice of Russia for Sevastopol held a working meeting on the provision of international legal assistance with colleagues from the Office of Civil Registry of the city of Sevastopol, the Office for Migration Issues of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of Sevastopol, and the Branch of the Pension and Social Insurance Fund of the Russian Federation for Sevastopol, Notary Chamber of the city of Sevastopol.

During the meeting, its participants discussed innovations in this area of ​​activity related to the entry into force of the Convention on Legal Assistance and Legal Relations in Civil, Family and Criminal Matters, signed in Chisinau on October 7, 2002 (hereinafter referred to as the Chisinau Convention), shortcomings, problematic issues that arise in the course of preparing, sending and executing requests for international legal assistance.

Employees of the Department shared practical experience in using open official information resources in order to obtain additional legal information regarding CIS documents, in particular, the website of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States, told colleagues about the possibility of access to open data in public registers of foreign countries for the initial verification of the legitimacy of notaries documents.

The meeting allowed for an exchange of views and the development of a number of agreed decisions on issues of interaction in the field of obtaining the necessary legal information from authorized bodies of foreign states using the tools of the Chisinau Convention.

At the invitation of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Justice of Russia for the Rostov Region, all those present also took part via videoconference in a seminar on the topic: “Typical violations committed by Russian competent authorities when preparing requests for international legal assistance on the territory of foreign states,” having the opportunity to familiarize themselves with work experience colleagues from other regions of the Southern Federal District.
