CrimeaPRESS reports:
The Russian Society “Znanie” extends until November 3 the acceptance of applications for participation in documentary film festival Znanie.Kino, which will be held from November 28 to December 2 in Moscow at VDNKh as part of the International Exhibition and Forum “Russia”. The film festival is dedicated to the activities of the Soviet film director and screenwriter, one of the founders and theorists of documentary cinema, Dziga Vertov. The co-organizer of the festival is director, producer, artistic director of the Theater on Malaya Bronnaya Konstantin Bogomolov, the general partner of the project is the Internet Development Institute (ANO IRI).
The start of accepting applications was given on August 27, Russian Cinema Day, as announced by the General Director of the Russian Society “Knowledge” Maxim Dreval and director Konstantin Bogomolov. During this time, several hundred works were received from more than 30 regions of the country. The leaders in the number of applications submitted were the Moscow, Leningrad, Tomsk, Chelyabinsk, Vladimir and Sverdlovsk regions, the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, the Republics of Tatarstan and Crimea, the Perm and Stavropol Territories. Documentary filmmakers from 8 federal districts of the country have already expressed their desire to participate in the competition program of the film festival: Central, Northwestern, Ural, Siberian, Volga, North Caucasus, Southern and Far Eastern.
Documentary films are an important source of reliable knowledge about Russia: about its peoples, traditions and culture, history and geography. And I am sincerely glad that today Russian documentary cinema is attractive to an increasing number of young filmmakers and viewers. The works of the winners of last year’s director’s idea competition Znanie.Kino have already collected millions of views on popular online platforms. I am sure that the films that we will see at the upcoming film festival Znanie.Kino will also be in demand — authors from all federal districts of our country have already presented their projects. Therefore, realizing how interesting and important documentary films are to today’s authors and viewers, we decided to extend the acceptance of applications for participation in the film festival. We want everyone, even from the most remote corners of Russia, to have additional time to present their documentary film projectssays General Director of the Russian Society “Znanie” Maxim Dreval.
Alexey Goreslavsky, General Director of the Internet Development Institute (ANO IRI), spoke about the development of modern documentary filmmaking and the demand for projects such as Knowledge.Cinema.
Making interesting documentary content that will be in demand among viewers is a difficult task. But real. We have been developing this area for a long time and supporting documentary projects that have a strong story. And today non-fiction films can easily compete with feature films in terms of quality and potential audience. Although it certainly requires special marketing, including festival marketing. And projects like Knowledge.Cinema make it possible to fill the industry with quality projects in this genre and open up new namessays Alexey Goreslavsky.
The acceptance of applications for participation in the large-scale educational project has been extended until November 3 inclusive. Citizens of Russia who are over 18 years old can present their works about the historical and cultural heritage of our country, the discoveries and achievements of their compatriots in the categories: “Newsreel”, “Research”, “Conversation”, “Video Film”. Young documentary filmmakers aged 14 to 17 years can apply to participate in the “First” nomination. A special nomination “Choice of the First” has also been established, the winner of which will be selected from all films submitted to the film festival. Films created in 2021–2023 that already have distribution certificates or are in the process of obtaining them are accepted for participation.
The first 4 nominations will be assessed by a jury consisting of famous theater and film directors, public figures and other experts. Films in the “First” and “Choice of the First” nominations will be evaluated by a special jury — participants of the Russian movement of children and youth “Movement of the First”.
Viewers will see the best films included in the project’s shortlist at the film festival, which will run for 5 days — from November 28 to December 2 in the capital. The winners of the film festival will receive grants for specialized training and internships, and the purchase of professional equipment for filming. The films of the film festival laureates will also be presented to the public at the World Youth Festival, which will be held from March 1 to March 7, 2024 in Sochi.
The partners of the documentary film festival Znanie.Kino, along with the Internet Development Institute (ANO «IRI»), are the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the Russian movement of children and youth «Movement of the First», the Union of Cinematographers of Russia and Moschino.
