'Adepts' of banned religious organization to be tried in Crimea

The Main Investigation Department of the Russian Investigative Committee for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol completed the investigation of a criminal case against two residents of the Krasnogvardeisky district accused of organizing the activities of an extremist organization (part 1 of article 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
By the decision of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation of April 20, 2017 and the appeal ruling of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation of July 17, 2017, the religious organization «Administrative Center of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia» and local religious organizations included in its structure were recognized as extremist and banned on the territory of the state— recalled in the Sledkom.
The Investigation Department of the Department for the Investigation of Particularly Important Cases of the Main Investigation Department established that from April 2017 to September 2022, the defendants continued to carry out the activities of the local religious organization, banned (in the territory of the Russian Federation) by the court — “Jehovah’s Witnesses of the village. Krasnogvardeyskoye. At the same time, a 51-year-old man acted as the chairman of the supreme governing body of a religious organization and an ideological leader, and his 44-year-old colleague actively participated in the organization and assisted the leader. Together, the men coordinated the activities of adherents, held meetings of a banned religious organization, organized speeches and discussions of religious literature, including through the Internet.
The criminal activity of the organizer of the Red Guard cell was suppressed by operational officers of the Federal Security Service of Russia in the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, the Center for Combating Extremism of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Republic of Crimea at the end of September 2022. His associate was detained in March this year while trying to escape to the territory of another state. The defendants were placed under house arrest.
The criminal investigation has been completed. The guilt of both defendants in the commission of the crime is confirmed by the testimony of witnesses given during interrogations, the results of searches at their place of residence and criminal activity, protocols of examination of objects and documents, conclusions of specialists and experts, as well as materials of operational-search activities. The case materials were sent to the prosecutor’s office for the purpose of studying, signing the indictment and sending the case to court— reported in the Sledkom.
