Admiral Alexander Vitko — Honorary Citizen of Sevastopol
CrimeaPRESS reports:
On June 14, a solemn ceremony of presenting the insignia “Honorary Citizen of the City of Sevastopol”, awarded to Admiral Alexander Vitko, took place in the Legislative Assembly on June 14.
His name is also included on the memorial wall of the Honorary Citizens of Sevastopol on Nakhimov Square. The decision to assign titles to the former commanders of the Black Sea Fleet, Alexander Vitko and Igor Kasatonov, was made by the Legislative Assembly on May 3. According to the law, regalia are presented to Honorary Citizens on City Day — June 14, but 85-year-old I. Kasatonov could not come to the ceremony. Alexander Vitko, commander of the Black Sea Fleet from 2013 to 2018, was awarded the title “for special merits in the performance of military duty, ensuring the safety of residents of the city of Sevastopol and maintaining peace on the Crimean Peninsula in 2014.”
In his response at the ceremony, the admiral thanked the city for the honor.
Thank you very much for the honor! Today I bow my head to the guys who died during the Northern Military District, to the guys who are now courageously defending our Motherland on the line of combat contact. It really hurts me that I am not with my comrades. But I did, am doing and will do everything to make our fleet stronger. We will do everything possible and impossible for the sake of our Victory, the future, the happiness of our children. Long live our great Russia! Long live our most beloved, most beautiful, most heroic city of Sevastopol,” the press service of the city legislative assembly quotes Alexander Vitko.
