Alexander Shtehbart was elected to the post of Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Crimea

The State Council of the Republic of Crimea supported the candidacy of Alexander Shtehbart for the public position of Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Crimea, proposed by the Head of the Republic of Crimea Sergei Aksyonov and agreed with the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatyana Moskalkova. The corresponding decision was made at a session of the Crimean parliament.
Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Crimea Vladimir Konstantinov congratulated Alexander Shtehbart on his election and taking the oath.
Stechbart’s appointment was supported by 62 deputies of the State Council of the Republic of Crimea out of 64 present in the hall. After the vote, he took the oath of ombudsman.
I will make every effort to serve the Republic and the Crimeans. The vision of the activity has been formed. I would like to see understanding and support from the executive authorities and the deputy corps in matters of interaction,” noted the Crimean Ombudsman.
Previously, Alexander Shtehbart previously held the position of Assistant Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Crimea. He has over 25 years of experience in the prosecutor’s office. In March 2014, he temporarily acted as the prosecutor of Crimea.
The Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Crimea is elected for a period of five years from the moment he takes the oath of office to ensure guarantees of state protection of human and civil rights and freedoms, to promote their observance and respect by public authorities of the Republic of Crimea, local government bodies and officials, as well as the implementation powers of the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Crimea, provided for by the legislation of the Republic of Crimea.
