Citizens preparing a funeral have the right to receive benefits that should reimburse these costs. The benefit amount is set at the federal level and is subject to indexation every year. In accordance with the social category to which the deceased belonged, payment of benefits can be made from the Social Fund of Russia, previously the Pension Fund of Russia and the Social Insurance Fund, as well as from the city budget.
Procedure for assigning and receiving benefits
Funeral benefits in St. Petersburg are assigned in accordance with the social category to which the deceased belongs:
- The pensioner was not working at the time of his death. The payment is made by the territorial body of the Financial Markets Service, formerly the Pension Fund of Russia;
- an employed resident of St. Petersburg, this includes working pensioners. The payment falls on the employer, since he was the policyholder;
- a minor citizen who is part of a family of employed citizens. The payment must be made by the employer who is the insured of one of the parents or a representative of the minor;
- an unemployed citizen who does not have social insurance and does not receive a pension at the time of death, as well as a stillborn child born more than 154 days old. The money is provided by the social welfare department at your place of residence.
Benefit amount
The amount of the funeral benefit in 2024 in St. Petersburg was changed at the beginning of February, and now it is 8,370 rubles.
To receive these funds, you must contact the authority you need within six months from the date of registration of death. Persons belonging to social categories of citizens may receive additional benefits.
Who can get the money
The following have the right to receive compensation for funeral expenses:
- spouse;
- the closest relative of the deceased;
- relatives of other degrees of kinship;
- persons representing the deceased in accordance with the law;
- any citizens who took upon themselves the preparation of the funeral.
Documents for receiving compensation
To receive compensation for a funeral, it is necessary to prepare a package of documents, which includes an application, the passport of the person submitting the application, a document that is an official confirmation of the fact of death, a certificate of death.
The person who has taken responsibility for organizing the funeral has the right to refuse compensation. In this case, a free burial is available, which includes a list of services established by law.
