Almost 150,000 square meters of camouflage nets in Sevastopol in two months
CrimeaPRESS reports:
At first we wove white nets, but the winter is so warm this year — there is practically no snow. And the fighters painted our nets themselves. Now we ask what color is needed. For example, for a braid, we dye the fabric in a sandy color, or, for example, we receive orders for an off-white color or khaki. We have feedback — the fighters correct by colors. And now they have their own dyeing shop, which will greatly facilitate the work , — says Olga Kovalenko, coordinator of the volunteer unit.
In the workshop for weaving nets, a completed order for a serviceman with the call sign «Forecaster» is waiting to be sent: 10 square meters — these are nine nets. Volunteers of the network also sent to the legendary battalion «Pyatnashka» — one of the oldest units of the DPR.
They manage to make about three or four products a day. After the net is ready, it is rolled up together with a repair kit and gifts: vests, icons, sweets and letters from children. As far as possible, humanitarian aid is sent to the front line when the car arrives. Sometimes it happens once a week, sometimes more often.
By the way, the premises for the workshop appeared relatively recently — in early December. And before that, O. Kovalenko and several of her assistants made nets at home, but it turned out to be extremely inconvenient. Then the women began to write to all authorities and, according to them, when they managed to meet with the governor, the issue was resolved literally in one day.
After that, the production of nets took a completely different turn: now it is already a real production. Someone stands at the cutting room — cuts the fabric into strips and jokingly call themselves representatives of the «cutting shop». Someone pulls the net on the frame. Others weave or package finished products…
By the way, different sizes of nets are needed for different purposes: a net of 9 per 10 meters is used for artillery, a narrow net is required for a trench, and for a tank, for example, you need at least 6×8.
The basis for the nets — fishing nets — is purchased by the United Russia party. And sheets, gifts and paints are brought by Sevastopol residents. Someone helps financially, donations are sent by Russians even from other regions of the country. True, materials for networks still tend to run out quickly.
On the walls of the workshop there are memos on how to weave a net correctly and what mistakes are encountered in this business. For example, continuous weaving should be avoided, open cages should not be left, and one tape should not overlap another. However, any beginner, if desired, will master this business in a few minutes.
Weaving nets is not difficult — it’s not Newton’s binomial, not higher mathematics. We show beginners what to do and in just a few minutes they begin to fully work. But, of course, by the evening everyone is tired, — volunteer Tatyana Syrtsova explains.
Volunteers are ready to weave nets until «until the victorious salute thunders.» Many come to weaving from afar: from the North side, Andreevka and Balaklava. Working volunteers drop in on their lunch break and on weekends. Recently, the division even had two «daughters» — in Uglovy and Kutch. Schools help — No. and No. 4.
And the age of the volunteers is completely different — these are young mothers with children, married couples, working people and people of the “silver age”. But they have always taken an active life position. For example, T. Syrtsova worked as an assistant to a deputy, participated in a referendum and was used to being in the thick of things, and Lyubov Akhtulova, a former participant in the Fitness Grandmothers project, believes that now any Russian cannot stand aside.
Accustomed to being needed and the creator of the unit O. Kovalenko. In her youth, she was a ship’s cook, then she worked as a warehouse manager and a canteen manager. Her husband, a sea captain, always supports his wife in any endeavors.
Why did I do this? I wanted to save someone, save someone — after all, our camouflage nets can save someone’s life , emphasizes O. Kovalenko.
