Almost a thousand explosive objects from the Gilzovaya Bay were destroyed by employees of the Russian Emergencies Ministry in Sevastopol
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Almost 1,000 ammunition was immediately lifted from the seabed and destroyed by employees of the Russian Emergencies Ministry in the city of Sevastopol. These are the first results of the new season of work in the local Gilzovaya Bay. For the third year in a row, specialists from the emergency department are cleaning up its water area from the formidable legacy of the Great Patriotic War. The next stage began in March 2023.
The name «Sleeve» bay was given by popular rumor — precisely because of the large accumulation of ammunition. Recall that during the Great Patriotic War, fierce battles were fought in this area. In 2021 and 2022, the Russian Emergencies Ministry eliminated more than 6,000 explosive objects found here. These are artillery shells, mortar mines, hand grenades, fuses of both German and Soviet production.
Divers of the Specialized Detachment of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia lifted all the finds from the depth with the help of air-filled pontoons, after which they were towed to the coastal zone. With care, the ammunition was taken out of the water and loaded on board a special vehicle. They worked in compliance with all security measures: the perimeter was cordoned off by the police to exclude the possibility of access by outsiders. Monitoring of the situation from the air was carried out with the help of unmanned aerial vehicles of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia. The arsenal was transported to the training ground, where it was destroyed by controlled detonation. The operation proceeded normally. There was no damage to the population and infrastructure— says the head of the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the city of Sevastopol, lieutenant of the internal service Maria Timoshenko.
The Russian Emergencies Ministry will continue to work in Gilzovaya Bay until the end of October.
