Almost one and a half tons of garbage: the results of the first “Clean Games” are summed up in Sevastopol

On September 16, in the Dinopark area in Sevastopol, it was fun, active and educational: the “Clean Games” were held here for the first time. The organizer of the eco-competition was Olga Glukhova, head of the public organization “Sevparki”. The venue for the first game, held as part of the Small Cup of Cleanliness, was not chosen by chance — this is the Antique Road and the ancient estate No. 9 of the Chersonese Chora, on the territory of which in the future the organizers hope to see a landscaped historical park “from sea to sea”, between Kamyshovaya and Omega bays . A total of 66 people took part in the competition, uniting into 17 teams. Together they collected almost one and a half tons of garbage.

“Clean Games” is an all-Russian project, a team competition to clean natural areas of garbage and separate waste. The usual cleanup turns into an exciting game with prizes, during which participants not only collect various waste, but also perform a variety of tasks.

So, on September 16, Sevastopol residents competed by throwing lids into boxes, guessing riddles and taking part in quizzes. An important part of the program was an excursion about the history of the ancient estate of allotment No. 9 of the Chersonese choir, which was conducted by Oleg Skuridin, a researcher at the Chersonese-Tavrichesky museum-reserve, with whose support the “Clean Games” were held.

In an hour and a half, the teams collected 1,319.78 kilograms of garbage, ultimately generating 111 bags of household waste. In addition to mixed garbage, plastic, metal and glass, the area was also cleared of large waste, abandoned tires and even old sofas.

Three teams managed to get the most points and became winners of the eco-competition. The first place was won by the “Rockabilly” team, which received 157.4 points, the second place was won by the “Pure ECO” team, which scored 145 points, and the “Baidar Mile” team earned an honorary “bronze”, its result was 110 points. All teams received valuable and memorable prizes from the game partners.

I consider our overall result a big victory! I am very glad that not only eco-activists, but also residents of nearby areas joined the competition. Many came with whole families, and this is exactly what we work for — so that children and young people know and love the history of their city. After all, the purpose of the event is not so much the cleanup itself, although this is very important and useful, but rather to draw attention to the abandonment of the territory of ancient monuments and to involve people in the improvement of these spaces. Thanks to Clean Games, the territory of a protected cultural heritage site ceases to be a landfill and wasteland where people dump construction and household waste. We urge everyone to take care of their city and keep it clean!,” notes the organizer of the first “Clean Games” Olga Glukhova.
