Alushta police detained a citizen who caused an accident in a stolen minibus

A local resident contacted the Alushta police. He reported that an unknown person had stolen his Ford Transit, which was parked near a catering establishment on one of the city streets. After some time, information was received about an accident involving a minibus and passenger transport. The State Traffic Inspectorate officers established that the minibus responsible for the accident was listed as stolen, and its driver, having left the damaged car on the road, disappeared into the forest.
As a result of operational and investigative activities, the criminal investigation officers of the OMVD of Russia for the city of Alushta established the identity of the suspect. He turned out to be a 30-year-old previously repeatedly convicted native of another subject of the Russian Federation, currently residing in the city of Sevastopol. The attacker did not appear at his actual address of residence, but the next day after the incident, the man came to the police station to give a confession.
The offender told the police that he had come to the resort town for a vacation. After drinking alcohol, the suspect went for a walk and found an unlocked vehicle on one of the streets, with keys in the ignition. Despite not having a driver’s license, the citizen started the vehicle and drove it towards Yalta, on the way to which he got into an accident.— reported the traffic police.
Employees of the State Traffic Inspectorate in relation to the attacker sosAdministrative protocols have been filed under Part 2 of Art. Art. . 12.27 Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (failure to fulfill duties in connection with an accident). The Alushta city court sentenced the offender to administrative arrest for 10 days.
The investigation department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Alushta opened a criminal case against the suspect on the grounds of a crime under Part 1 of Art. 166 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (wrongful taking of a car or other vehicle without the purpose of theft). The sanction of the article provides for a maximum penalty of up to 5 years in prison.
