An 18-year-old Astrakhan man was detained in Sevastopol. I was looking for “easy money” — I found big troubles

CrimeaPRESS reports:

In Sevastopol, operatives detained a resident of Astrakhan suspected of fraudulently stealing money from pensioners.

It was established that an 18-year-old young man moved from Astrakhan to Sevastopol and, in search of easy and quick money, found an advertisement for work as a courier in one of the chats of a popular messenger. He contacted the anonymous channel administrator and, after clarifying the details, agreed to cooperate.

On the instructions of the curators, the Astrakhan resident was supposed to visit elderly people who had been previously called by the scammers, introduced themselves as law enforcement officers and reported that their relatives were allegedly responsible for the accident. Under the pretext of exemption from liability, telephone scammers convinced victims to transfer large sums of cash to the arriving courier. Following the instructions received, the scammers’ accomplice came to the pensioners, received money from them, which he then transferred to the accounts dictated to him, and kept five thousand rubles from each amount for himself. Currently, the suspect’s involvement in three episodes of criminal activity has been established, from which two women, 83 and 85 years old, and one man, 68 years old, suffered, who transferred 740 thousand rubles and 1,200 US dollars to the swindler— said the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Sevastopol.

Criminal investigation officers quickly located the courier and detained him immediately after visiting the 68-year-old man. During a personal search, the detainee was found and confiscated money that he had stolen from the victim in the amount of 400 thousand rubles. The seized money was returned to the pensioner.

Criminal cases have been initiated against the suspect under Part 2 and Part 3 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Fraud”), he faces up to six years in prison. The defendant was taken into custody. Operational search activities and investigative actions aimed at establishing all episodes of illegal activity continue.
