An action timed to coincide with World TB Day has started in Sevastopol
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Within the framework of the «Week of Prevention of Infectious Diseases», as well as the «Week of Lung Health», an action under the motto «Sevastopol without tuberculosis!» is being held in the Sevastopol TB dispensary. It aims to inform the public about the prevention and treatment of the disease. Doctors note that in most cases tuberculosis is asymptomatic — everyone should know and remember this. Diagnosis is possible only with a fluorographic or x-ray examination.
In our institution, we annually organize a campaign in which Sevastopol residents can undergo lung x-rays, get advice from adult and pediatric phthisiatricians, and make Diaskintest for children. Tuberculosis is a disease in which development occurs very systematically, without any pronounced symptoms. The incubation period can be quite long, for example, a person can become infected in childhood, and get sick already in old age— quotes the press service of the Government of Sevastopol, the chief physician of the anti-tuberculosis dispensary Andrey Verbitsky.
Timely examination is the key to health. According to experts, people who are not at risk should have their lungs checked once a year.
The results of such prophylactic weeks usually lead to the fact that we can detect not only tuberculosis, but also other respiratory diseases, including oncological processes, hereditary diseases, pneumonia— Andrey Verbitsky notes.
In Sevastopol, in 2022, the situation with the incidence of tuberculosis is stable, the rate is 32 people per 100,000 population. This is below the epidemic threshold.
As part of the “Lung Health Week” campaign, from March 21 to March 24, anyone can go to a tuberculosis dispensary and undergo an X-ray examination, get advice from an adult and pediatric phthisiatrician, and make Diaskintest for a child.
Recall that in Sevastopol, the implementation of the national project «Healthcare», the purpose of which is to increase the life expectancy of the population, continues. As part of the project, in December 2022, the TB dispensary received new equipment and the Center for Radiation Diagnostics of the X-ray department was opened. Now all existing methods for detecting tuberculosis are available to residents of the city.
