An Alushta resident who caused a “drunk accident” thought he got off with a suspended sentence. No matter how it is

CrimeaPRESS reports:

The Supreme Court of Crimea upheld the appeal of the state prosecutor in a criminal case against a 42-year-old resident of Alushta. Earlier, by the verdict of the Kyiv District Court of the city of Simferopol, the man was found guilty under paragraph “a” of Part 2 of Art. 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of traffic rules, committed by a person while intoxicated, resulting in serious harm to the health of the victim).

The court found that in April 2022, the convict, while intoxicated and driving along the Eastern Bypass of Simferopol highway, showed inattention to the road situation, which is why he collided with a Skoda car moving in the opposite direction. As a result of a traffic accident, a passenger in a Skoda car was seriously injured.

By the verdict of the court of first instance, the convicted person was sentenced to 2 years of suspended imprisonment with a probationary period for a similar period. The state prosecutor did not agree with the imposed punishment and appealed the sentence on appeal.— reported the prosecutor’s office.

The Supreme Court of the Republic of Crimea agreed with the prosecutor’s arguments and changed the sentence; the imposed punishment was increased to 3 years of imprisonment to be served in a penal colony. The culprit is also deprived of the right to drive all types of vehicles for 3 years.
