An elderly resident of Simferopol recognized the scammers, and his son helped the police detain their courier
CrimeaPRESS reports:
An 84-year-old local resident contacted the Simferopol police. He said that he received a call from an alleged employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The caller said that the man’s son was the culprit of the accident, and demanded 800 thousand rubles to compensate for moral and material damage to the injured party. The money had to be handed over to the arriving courier.
At first the pensioner was afraid for his loved one and agreed to the terms of his interlocutor. However, after assessing the situation, I called my son back, who said that he had not been in an accident, and added that he would come right away. Approaching his parent’s apartment, the man saw a guy running out of the house. He grabbed him and held him until the police arrived.
The detainee turned out to be an 18-year-old native of the Dzhankoy district, who came to the capital of the peninsula to study at one of the colleges. The young man confessed and said that he had found criminal earnings in one of the groups of a popular social network. There, a curator contacted him, who explained that he needed to come to the specified addresses, collect funds and transfer them to certain details, leaving himself 10% of the amount as a reward— reported the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Crimea.
An investigator of the Investigative Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of Simferopol opened a criminal case against the suspect on the grounds of a crime under Part 3 of Art. 30 (“attempted crime”), part 3 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“fraud on a large scale”).
