An exhibition at the Massandra Palace tells about the family traditions of the Don Cossacks
CrimeaPRESS reports:
The exhibition presents exhibits from the collections of the country’s leading museums: the Rostov Regional Museum of Local History, the Novocherkassk Museum of the History of the Don Cossacks, the M.A. Sholokhov State Museum-Reserve «Quiet Flows the Don», the Alupka Palace and Park Museum-Reserve, — the press service of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Crimea notes.
The exhibited items from the historical, everyday life and documentary collections of the museums reflect the history of family and marital relations of the Don Cossacks of the 18th – 20th centuries, demonstrate their role in raising children and the primacy of the family in the life of the Don Cossacks, and also introduce prominent noble Cossack families.
Using rare exhibits as an example, viewers learned about the beauty and deep meaning of all stages of the marriage ritual of the Don Cossacks, which in a broad sense represents a way of transmitting certain ideas, traditional norms of behavior, and primordial spiritual values to new generations.
In addition, a diverse interactive program was presented on the territory of the palace complex: virtuoso horse riding «Reviving Traditions», a concert of Cossack folk songs «And in Our Land on the Don», as well as the work of 11 interactive sites introducing objects of Cossack life and ethnography, master classes, photo zones with game ethnographic elements.
The exhibition can be visited until October of this year.
