An exhibition of Western European painters «The Art of the Old Masters» has opened in the Swallow's Nest Castle
CrimeaPRESS reports:
In Palace-Castle «Swallow’s Nest» until the end of July, you can visit the exhibition «The Art of Old Masters» from the collection of the Simferopol Art Museum. More than 20 works by Western European painters of the 17th-19th centuries are presented in the halls of the castle.
The exposition takes the viewer to the busy streets of European cities, introduces them to the interior of a house or workshop. The exhibition opens with the work of the Flemish Baroque painter Tobias Verhacht (1561-1631), a subtle landscape painter and the first teacher of Peter Paul Rubens. The dynamic works of Pieter Brueghel can be correlated with the multi-figure «Village Festival» by Cornelis Drochsloot (1585-1666), who filled this genre scene with a special national sound. The historical genre is represented by the work «The Battle of the Riders» by the German artist Georg Philipp Rugendas (1666-1742). Fine gradation of color and soft chiaroscuro distinguish the chamber landscape «City Gates by the River» by Frans de Hulst (1606-1661).
The painting «Landscape with Ancient Ruins» by the Dutch artist Isaac de Moucheron (1667-1744) indicates the transition of European art to classicism, the search for simplicity and clarity of content and form. According to the tradition in European painting of the 17th-18th centuries, the work “Boy with a Pipe” (copy after Benedetto Luti (1666-1724)) acts as an allegory of hearing. The historical events of the 17th century are conveyed by “Scene from the Thirty Years’ War” by Ludwig Thiersch (1825-1909).
The joint project of two republican museums was prepared with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Crimea.
