An open chess tournament dedicated to the memory of Andrey Paliy was held in Sevastopol
CrimeaPRESS reports:
The chess tournament for the Cup of the Governor of Sevastopol and the Commander of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation was held for the first time on the initiative of the City Chess Federation. The competition was timed to the Day of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the Day of the liberation of Sevastopol from the Nazi invaders and the Day of the Black Sea Fleet.
The tournament was held to perpetuate the memory of the Deputy Commander of the Black Sea Fleet for military-political work, Captain 1st Rank Andriy Paliy, who died on March 19, 2022 in Mariupol during a special military operation in Ukraine.
40 people participated in the three-day competition, 13 of which were cadets of the PS Nakhimov Black Sea Higher Naval School, and 5 more were students of the Presidential Cadet School. The rest are military personnel and law enforcement officers.
The competition ended on May 14, the places were distributed as follows:
- 1st place — Ivan Khvorost;
- 2nd place — Igor Aderikho;
- 3rd place — Vladimir Imenchuk.
This time we still have a rather small number of participants, but I am sure that it will increase every year. Firstly, there is already an idea to organize a tournament by age, by groups. This will make it possible to hold some regional, let’s say, qualifying stages on the basis of, for example, educational organizations on the eve of a big tournament dedicated to Andrei Nikolayevich,” said Igor Mikheev, Deputy Governor of Sevastopol.
The main idea of the tournament is to perpetuate the memory of Andrey Paliy, Deputy Commander of the Black Sea Fleet, and once again remind the cadets and cadets of what a real Russian officer should be like.
Recall that Andrei Paly was awarded the Order of Courage (posthumously), a memorial plaque was erected at the place of his death in Mariupol. Also, the patrol boat of the Crimean naval base «P-415» of the «Raptor» project was given the honorary name «Andrey Paly». Now a tournament named after him will also be held in Sevastopol.
