An Orthodox shrine was delivered to Simferopol — the relics of St. George the Victorious
CrimeaPRESS reports:
On September 4, as part of the All-Russian Prayer for Victory, with the blessing of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’ Kirill, an ark with a particle of the relics of the Holy Great Martyr George the Victorious was delivered to the St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Simferopol.
According to the press service of the Crimean Metropolis, the solemn meeting of the reliquary with the relics and the cathedral prayer service in front of the shrine was led by the Head of the Crimean Metropolis, Metropolitan Lazar of Simferopol and Crimea, co-served by Metropolitan Platon of Feodosia and Kerch, Bishop Alexy of Dzhankoy and Razdolnensky, vicar of the Simferopol diocese of Bishop Nestor of Yalta, vicar Simferopol diocese of Bishop Kallinik of Bakhchisarai, vicar of the Feodosia diocese of Bishop Agathon of Koktebel and numerous clergy.
Many believers, residents and guests of the Crimean land, gathered to offer a prayer to the Great Martyr George and venerate his holy relics. Among them are servicemen, National Guardsmen, representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and law enforcement agencies, members of various public organizations, representatives of the Crimean Cossacks, members of the Brotherhood of Orthodox Pathfinders, Orthodox youth, students of cadet classes, numerous guests and pilgrims.
During the prayer service, solemn petitions for the unity of Holy Rus’ and a prayer to the Holy Great Martyr George the Victorious were lifted up, and at the end of it, Metropolitan Lazar of Simferopol and Crimea addressed the audience with an Archpastoral word, in which he noted that «Today we are going through a difficult and difficult period in the history of our country. The enemy of the human race took up arms against Holy Rus’ — to destroy its one people«.
I believe this will never happen! Because God is with us! And God — according to the words of the Holy Prince Alexander Nevsky — «Not in power, but in truth»! The merciful Lord has never left our people. And if we sincerely and zealously cry out to Him now, He will not leave us even now.— said the Head of the Crimean Metropolis.
The attendees read out an appeal sent by Patriarch Kirill to the participants in the solemn bringing of the ark with the relics of the Great Martyr George the Victorious in the diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church.
It should be noted that the All-Russian prayer service for Victory is held on the initiative of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’ from May to November 2023, visiting 90 cities of Russia. The organizer of the bringing of the ark with the relics of the Holy Great Martyr George the Victorious is the Commission for the Development of Pilgrimage and the Bringing of Shrines of the Russian Orthodox Church with the assistance of the leadership of the regions of Russia and the organizational support of the World Russian People’s Council.
