An unknown sunken ship was discovered off the coast of Sevastopol

CrimeaPRESS reports:

It is still difficult to determine whether it is a civilian or a military vessel. Additional underwater research will be carried out in the near future.

After a devastating storm that hit Sevastopol on the night of November 27, in the area of the 35th Coastal Battery, Sevastopol freediver, World and Russian record holder for high-altitude breath-hold diving, scuba diving coach of the Sevastopol team of the Underwater Sports Federation Anna Sevastyanova examined the sea area and discovered a previously unknown sunken ship. The Association of Underwater Activities of Crimea and Sevastopol reported this on social networks.

«Sevastopol newspaper» I contacted the athlete and learned the story of the find first hand. She discovered the ship on December 17. According to the girl, she wanted to see how the world below the waterline had changed after a serious storm. It turned out that the sea landscape really became different.

Huge stones, even rocks, disappeared, and the sand shifted. In one place there was a sandy bottom, in another it became several meters higher“says A. Sevastyanova and adds that the sea also did not spare the underwater museum of anchors in Victory Park.

There are no more heavy underwater objects there.

Her first find that day was a large anchor from a large sea transport.

It seemed to have grown into stone or been concreted somewhere, then it was washed away and brought to us by a stormexplains the diver.

An hour and a half after this discovery, she managed to discover part of the ship. This happened when A. Sevastyanova was returning from a swim; she did not have much time left to study the object in detail.

I can say with confidence that this is not an ancient ship, because the preserved lines indicate modernity. Unfortunately, no identifying marks were foundnoted the athlete.

According to her, it has not yet been possible to identify the ship: apparently, it is a small ship, but it is difficult to say whether it is military or civilian.

In the near future, the World record holder is making plans for a second dive and additional research. She believes that “if the sea permits, there will be some more fragments.” The found anchor, in her opinion, belongs to another ship, it is too big.

It is now the task of her entire team of Sevastopol freedivers to uncover the mystery of a sunken or shipwrecked ship.
