CrimeaPRESS reports:

In Simferopol, the activities of the leaders of the administrative center of the banned religious organization «Jehovah’s Witnesses of Russia» were stopped. This was reported to the Investigative Committee.

The Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, based on the results of special measures, initiated a criminal case against eight members of a criminal group accused of organizing the activities of an extremist organization and financing it (part 1 of article 282.2, part 1 of article 282.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation)— reported in the Sledkom.

In 2017, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation decided to liquidate the organization Jehovah’s Witnesses and its regional branches in connection with the implementation of extremist activities.

The Department for the Investigation of Particularly Important Cases found that a 46-year-old resident of Crimea, who is the chief republican warden from Jehovah’s Witnesses of Russia (an extremist organization, banned in the Russian Federation — ed.), three elders and three organizers, as well as a literature distributor and a recruiter, continued to support the active work of extremist cells on the territory of Simferopol and the Simferopol region. Through video communication with adherents, propaganda meetings were held, financial and economic work was carried out to support the organizationinvestigators said.

The criminal activity of the group was detected and stopped by operational officers of the Federal Security Service of Russia for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Republic of Crimea and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

During searches in places where meetings were held on a regular basis, religious literature with signs of extremist content, technical media, and records testifying to the economic and financial activities of the organization were confiscated.

Currently, a circle of other persons involved in the activities of a banned religious organization on the territory of the peninsula is being established.
