Applications are now being accepted for participation in the International Competition “Picture of the World”

The international competition of young artists “Picture of the World” is held in order to support artists aged 18 to 35 years and attract them to create works on a socially significant topic. Another goal of the competition is to search for new impulses for cultural exchange and transmit traditional values ​​through art.

The start of the competition was previously announced by the head of the Office of the President of the Russian Federation for Public Projects, Sergei Novikov. At the X St. Petersburg International Forum of United Cultures, he stated:

The head of the Tretyakov Gallery together with the head of Innopraktika announced the start of the “Picture of the World” competition. This is a competition for young artists. Based on the results of selection and passing all competition mechanics, young artists will have the opportunity to exhibit at the Tretyakov Gallery. This is important for a young man, because his resume will include a line about exhibiting works at the Tretyakov Gallery — this is a sign of quality and a springboard for a future creative career.

The theme of the competition — “The values ​​of my people as part of the global culture of humanity” — involves young artists in the creative exploration of traditions and their development in the modern world. Through artistic images, participants are invited to show the cultural heritage of their peoples, present the versatility and relevance of art, and reveal possible scenarios of technological, social, environmental and political changes.

Any attempts to isolate our culture were futile and rather had the opposite effect. This is confirmed by the International Exhibition of Young Art “Art.Youth”, which we organized at the World Youth Festival in March of this year. Despite the short deadline, 2,601 applications for participation were received from 110 countries. Of course, it makes sense to continue this experience and give young creators the opportunity for constructive expression. The “Picture of the World” competition is dedicated to ensuring that every young artist, Russian or foreign, can demonstrate their skills and qualify to exhibit in the main halls of our country, – notes Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Sergei Pershin.

The “Picture of the World” competition is held in three categories: painting, graphics and digital art, computer graphics and animation. Students and graduates of art educational organizations of secondary and higher education in Russia and foreign countries, as well as free, institutionally independent young Russian and foreign artists aged 18 to 35 inclusive, are invited to participate in the competition. The winners will be determined in three stages. Representatives of the youth creative council will select 100 works that meet the competition requirements. From these applications, the Creative Council of the competition will select the 50 best works that will be included in the short list of the competition. Based on rating voting, 14 finalists will be selected, whose works will be presented at an exhibition at the branch of the Tretyakov Gallery in Kaliningrad as part of the V International Festival of Classical Music “Cantata”.

The Tretyakov Gallery was pleased to be among the founders of the competition. We believe that such initiatives not only promote and popularize contemporary art among Museum visitors, but also stimulate the development of the creative potential of all competition participants, give new impetuses for cultural exchange and, of course, support young talents in the field of art in Russia and the world. I would like to emphasize the scale of the competition, its “internationality”. Leading creative universities in China, India, and Africa supported the project by joining the expert council, whose members will select applications. The result of the competition will be the opening of an exhibition of the winning works, which will take place at the branch of the Tretyakov Gallery in Kaliningrad in June 2025, — commented Elena Pronicheva, director of the Tretyakov Gallery Elena Pronicheva.

According to the rector of the Ilya Repin St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, Semyon Mikhailovsky, the start of the International Competition “Picture of the World” is a great opportunity to support young artists, discover new names, and give impetus to their creative development.

I am sure that many will respond and present worthy works to the authoritative jury. There are many youth music competitions held in Russia, but not a single serious competition for young artists. The fact that the winners’ works will be exhibited at the Tretyakov Gallery gives a special meaning to the whole undertaking. After all, one can only dream about this, — Mikhailovsky notes.
