The church now honors the memory of the saints — Khrisanf and Daria, who lived in the 3rd century in Rome. Khrisanf was born in a family of pagans, but decided to become a Christian after he read the New Testament. His father wanted to turn the young man from the Christian faith, so he married him on the priestess of Athena Pallas — Daria. But Chrysanf also converted it to Christianity. The spouses both decided to lead a virgin life, calling for those around them. For such an exceptional faith in Christianity, according to legend, Chrysanf and Daria pagans executed.
The people on April 1 called Daria Snovihi during the day, a pro -throat, and dirt. Such an unstable definition of the day received for a simple reason — snow was fraught with abundantly, blurring the roads and breeding dirt on them. The peasants were completely designated on April 1 rudely: «Daria borne everything.» But! It was believed that Daria is a dirty maral only bad people who had evil thoughts.
Our ancestors also believed that on the first April day, they began to active the brownie. The Slavs in ancient times believed that for the winter he hibernation, and wakes up only to do work around the house. According to the belief, in such a sleepy state of the brownie and stayed until April — until the moment when spring finally entered into its rights. In order to please the spirit of the dwelling and cheer up it, on April 1, he was treated to various goodies — they gave milk, porridge, wine and sweets.
The weather in Daria, of course, also predicted:
- A warm and clear day — to dry and windy summer.
- The rain on April 1 — there will be no drought in the summer.
- Standing snow — the summer will be rotten, and the crop is bad.
- Meltwater murmur — to a good hayfield.
- Verba bloomed on April 1 — hives must be opened.
- At night, the stars are not visible — the weather will be warm in the near future.
