April 1 is Daria Gryaznaya Day. Laugh, of course, but don't mock…

CrimeaPRESS reports:

The church today honors the memory of the saints — Chrysanthus and Darius, who lived in the 3rd century in Rome. Chrysanthos was born into a pagan family, but decided to become a Christian after reading the New Testament. His father wanted to turn the young man away from the Christian faith, so he married him to the priestess of Pallas Athena — Daria. But Chrysanthos converted her to Christianity too. The couple both decided to lead a virgin life, encouraging others to do the same. For such exceptional faith in Christianity, according to legend, the pagans executed Chrysanthus and Darius.

People called April 1 the day of Daria Poplovikha, blueberry, mud pond. The day was given such a dissonant definition for a simple reason: the snow was melting profusely, washing away the roads and spreading mud on them. The peasants even designated April 1 rudely: “Daria crap everything.” But! They believed that Daria Gryaznaya only spoiled bad people who had evil thoughts.

Our ancestors also believed that on the first day of April the Brownie begins to become active. In ancient times, the Slavs believed that he hibernates during the winter and wakes up only to do housework. According to legend, Domovoy remained in this sleepy state until April — until the moment when spring finally came into its own. In order to please the spirit of the home and lift his spirits, on April 1 he was treated to various delicacies — milk, porridge, wine and sweets were served.

The weather in Daria, of course, was also predicted:

Name days are celebrated today by: Innokenty, Dmitry, Ivan, Daria, Sophia.

And, of course, April 1 is April Fool’s Day or April Fool’s Day. A date on the calendar on which you can prank your family, friends and those around you with complete impunity. The main condition is that jokes must be harmless. Otherwise, the boomerang rule… after all… no one has canceled it.

Where does the celebration come from? History is silent about this. Several countries claim the title of “homeland of the holiday”: England, France, Mexico and Sweden. There is a version that initially April 1 was celebrated as Easter time and the day of the vernal equinox.
