April 11 is St. Mark's Day. Drink birch sap and you will be happy!
CrimeaPRESS reports:
On St. Mark’s Day, people believed that birch sap was not only tasty, but also… literally… miraculous. They drank it for good luck, believing that it would help in the treatment of illnesses.
Our ancestors also called April 11 as Ivan the Hermit, Cyril, Birch Day, Bereshchenie.
As for the weather:
- Heavy rain means a good oat harvest.
- Geese come out onto the ice — real spring warmth will not come soon.
- Lots of birch sap — summer will be rainy.
- The birch trees are already pubescent — the summer will be dry.
- Many swans on April 11 — for a warm spring.
- If the alder becomes “hairy” during this period, then the summer will be wet.
- Lapwing flies low — dry and clear weather will set in very soon.
- Magpies build their nests low — thunderstorms will be frequent in the summer.
- Cirrus clouds, without changing their shape, come from the West, and the horizon is clearly visible — a sign of bad weather. If the clouds have accumulated in the morning in the form of peculiar mountains, then by the evening there will be rain.
- Jackdaws fly in flocks — it will rain.
- The sun sets behind the clouds — it will rain.
- Early thunder — the cold will come.
