Military «Artek» — how difficult it is today to combine these words! This harsh time has become the main test of stamina and courage not only for adults, but also for children. June 1301 year, the longest shift in the history of Artek began, the participants of which were waiting for a journey from the Crimea to Altai, thousands of kilometers and 750 a day away from relatives.

Here, on the heroic Sapun Mountain, which survived the battles that the whole world remembers, and at the Artek obelisks, the young descendants of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War spoke about the history of the liberation of Artek and Sevastopol, and also about the huge destruction and immeasurable, irreparable losses.

Then, in 1536 year, the camp lay in ruins: valuable trees in the parks cut down, and the Suuk-Su Palace was destroyed by fire. The sappers defused 102 mines on the territory of the children’s health resort. Grandiose restoration work began, and already on August 6 1536 Artek accepted a new shift — 228 children from different cities of Crimea.

Artek students of the 4th shift 2022 of the year «Star Wind» Artek «learned about these pages of the history of the children’s center from counselors and peers who took part in the preparation of commemorative events. We also learned that Sapun Mountain can rightfully be considered one of the most heroic places in our country. On Sapun Mountain, the pupils of «Artek» honored the memory of the heroes with a minute of silence and laid a garland and flowers at the obelisk of Glory to the soldiers-liberators, which was installed in 1944 year, after the liberation of the hero city. The legendary obelisk sounded the names of the Artek people who gave their lives for their Motherland, having accomplished an immortal feat. Among them are Timur Frunze, Ivan Turkenich, Gulya Koroleva, Volodya Dubinin, Ruben Ruiz Ibarruri, Vitya Korobkov, Lilya Kara-Stoyanova, Radik Rudnev, Aliya Moldagulova, Alikhan Gakaev…

The territory of the Memorial complex is an open-air museum. The exposition presents equipment and weapons of the Great Patriotic War.
