April 15-St. Titus Day, a stranger, and at the same time «Barysh-day»
Krympress reports:
Why a stranger? Because all grain reserves came to an end. Also on this day, sowing seeds were checked and noted cleaned. In addition, they monitored the ice road on the rivers: if the ice floes drown, then the year will be difficult.
There was an interesting custom on April 15: they drove the raven that appeared next to the house. It was believed that if this bird is “fragmented”, then poverty, lack of food, needs to be avoided.
The current 24 hours were popularly called the Barysh-Play. The merchants believed: they will have fun — they will be successful and rich.
And who is Saint Titus, you ask? The Monk Elder, who lived in the ninth century of our era. It is known about him very, very little. But they say that he deserved universal love and veneration among the monastic fraternity thanks to his meek temper and righteous life.
As for nature and weather:
- A lot of water spilled — to a good haymaking and a rich harvest.
- By the south of April 15, a wedge of cranes stretches — the year will be indistinguishable and unsuccessful.
- The ice melts and sinks on the lakes — to a bad harvest.
- Ravens frolic high in the sky — to clear and sunny weather.
- Weighty waters flow slowly — to the crop failure. The pigeons are cooked on April 15 — to heat.
