April 16 — Nikita's Day. Water wakes up after winter

Krympress reports:

The people believed — on April 16, after a long winter sleep, water wakes up. And wakes up in a very bad mood! And the peasants did everything to appease the spirit of water. They brought him a treat ashore, asking not to scare either adults or children, and also do not drive fish from rivers and ponds.

There was even a rather cruel custom: a horse was given to the water. The animal was brought ashore and drowned. Together with the «drowned man» they sent spirit and edible: oil, bread, wine, chicken giblets, wine and even tobacco. Therefore, how quickly the water calmed down, they tried whether he took a spirit to the victim. Water refusal was terribly afraid of gifts. This was literally: there would be no good fishing to the coming summer.

The church today honors the memory of the Monk Nikita of the Confessor, who lived in the VIII century. He is glorified by the fact that he was firmly standing for the Orthodox Confession.

As for the weather will be:

  • Mother-i-Machech bloomed on April 16? Something bad will happen.
  • Long -term peals of thunder on this day — to the bad weather for a few days ahead.
  • Rain — by the spring of late and inclement spring.
  • The wind blows from the south side — to a good harvest of spring. Blowing from the north? It will rain soon.
  • A lot of birch juice — the summer will be rainy.
  • In a thunderstorm on April 16, the thunder is heard lingering and not too sharply — bad weather will continue in the near future.
Name days now note: Nikita, Martin, Theodosius.
