The church now honors the memory of both the Archbishop of Euthychius of Constantinople, and the martyr Jeremiah. The first, according to legends, lived in the 6th century. The Lord gave him the gift of prediction and the ability to heal heavy ailments. As for the martyr Jeremiah, it is only known about him that he lived in the 3rd century in Palestine and sacredly believed in Jesus Christ. During the persecution of Christians, Jeremiah was subjected to martyrdom.
On April 19, it was customary to pray to Euthychius for the well -being and health of the family. And the girls today also wondered on the narrowed. There was a tradition associated with apple trees, which these days just bloated: the brides hurried to tear the flower and faster than other girls to bring it to the temple. They believed that God would celebrate the first girl — she would definitely marry mutual love.
Such fortune-telling took place for a reason: the apple tree was among the people compared with a dressed young lady-bristle. It was this tree that was considered a symbol of fertility and love.
On the day of Evtichia and Yerema (Jeremiah), the hosts took care of apple trees in their gardens: they whitened the trunks to protect against harmful insects and propagated the branches with sticks, preparing for a rich harvest.
