April 7 — Annunciation today

The Annunciation is an Orthodox holiday that takes place annually on April 7 (March 25, old style) and is exactly 9 months from the date of the Nativity of Christ. The holiday was established in remembrance of the announcement to the Virgin Mary by the Archangel Gabriel of the good news of the conception and birth of the Divine Infant Jesus Christ. The Annunciation has one day of pre-celebration and one day of post-celebration, on which the Council of St. Archangel Gabriel.
There are many customs and signs associated with this celebration. One of the beautiful traditions was the release of birds, which were bought from traders especially for this purpose.
The old people burned salt that day. It was believed that after this it acquired miraculous properties. Our ancestors were also sure that on April 7, just like on Easter, sinners would not be tortured in Hell.
AND! Beware of thieves today! There is a sign: if a thief steals something on Annunciation Day, then the whole year will be successful for him. So — be careful!
As for the weather:
- Thunderstorm for Annunciation? For a warm summer and a good harvest of nuts.
- It’s damp on Annunciation — in the summer there will be a lot of mushrooms.
- There is snow on the roofs — it will lie in the fields until St. George’s Day (May 6).
- Sunny and cloudless skies – there will be thunderstorms in the summer.
- Whatever the weather is like during the day, it will be like that in the evening.
Also note: you cannot work on the Annunciation. Everyone should rest! And people, and birds, and animals! Even the food on April 7 should be prepared in a simple way that does not require any time or effort.
