In the Leninsky district of Crimea, archaeological field work continues on the territory of the Necropolis of the Artezian settlement. According to the press service of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Crimea, amazing finds of the 2023 season have already been made.
According to the head of the Artesian Archaeological Expedition, Professor of the Moscow Pedagogical State University Nikolai Vinokurov, a side-chamber burial of a young man, apparently of late Sarmatian time, was found at the Artesian settlement. The pit was filled with architectural details of the Doric order and their fragments of the temple of Zeus Genarch, built by the Bosporan king Pharnaces II. Sacrificial offerings in the form of a horse’s head and legs, an iron bit, and a strongly smoked hand-made vessel with parting food were found in front of the cornice slab. A small Caucasian man found in the grave was killed or died of wounds. On the bones of the hands traces of intravital fractures were traced without traces of healing, and an iron three-bladed arrowhead was discovered in the abdomen.
The preliminary dating of the burial is after 275 AD. e. The burial was closed more than 10 cubic meters. stone, among which whole and architectural details prevailed: architraves, cornices, drums, abacuses of columns. On three blocks of the architrave, a dedicatory inscription of King Farnak has been preserved, in which the name of the local community of military settlers is also mentioned, which in itself is a sensation. Now it is necessary to understand the social and ethnic status of the buried, which will require detailed examinations with the involvement of specialized specialistsarchaeologists say.
