Are people going crazy? Sevastopol citizen convicted of torturing an elderly mother

Agreeing with the position of the public prosecutor of the prosecutor’s office of the Leninsky district of the city of Sevastopol, the court delivered a guilty verdict against a 38-year-old local resident who had previously been convicted. He was found guilty under Part 1 of Art. 117 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (torture).
The man was found to be abusing alcohol. On this basis, he regularly comes into conflict with his mother, who lives with him, and from December 31, 2022 to January 8, 2023, while intoxicated, systematically beat her for no reason. From the criminal actions of her son, the elderly woman experienced physical pain and mental suffering, but due to her age and fear of him she could not resist. The victim told her friend about what was happening, after which the police arrived at the scene. The investigation of the criminal case was carried out by the department of inquiry of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Leninsky district of the city of Sevastopol. The justice of the peace of court district No. 14 of the Leninsky judicial district, taking into account the opinion of the public prosecutor, sentenced the guilty person to forced labor for a period of 6 months 10 days, with a deduction of 10% of the wages of the convicted person to the state revenue— reported the press service of the prosecutor’s office of Sevastopol.
