Artists from the DPR became guests of Tauride Chersonese
CrimeaPRESS reports:
The museum-reserve was visited by workers of cultural institutions of the Donetsk People’s Republic. They arrived in Sevastopol with the support of the Union of Theater Workers of the Russian Federation (UTD RF) and decided to see with their own eyes one of its iconic attractions — Tauride Chersonesos.
This is the eighth trip organized by the Union of Theater Workers. Our colleagues and their children come to Crimea for 10–12 days, sightseeing and attending performances at the Lunacharsky Theater, and the trip is always crowned with an excursion to Tauride Chersonesus, the pearl of the peninsula and Russia. I think it is very important to show where the city began, to talk about its significance and influence. Thanks to the comprehensive assistance provided by the management and staff of the museum-reserve, it becomes possible for children to visit this unique place,” said the project curator, Honored Artist of Russia and Ukraine E. I. Zhuravkin. Guests from the Donetsk Republican Academic Puppet Theater, the Donetsk Republican Academic Youth Theater and art schools in the region began their acquaintance with Tauride Chersonesos with fortifications and the Zeno Tower. The guide told visitors about the political structure, economy, military affairs, culture and traditions of the ancient city. Walking along the peribole, they were also able to see a model of the Oath of Citizens of Chersonesos, which ephebe youths once took upon reaching adulthood— note the press service of the Tauride Chersonese Museum-Reserve.
Special attention, the staff of the museum-reserve notes, was paid to the development of theatrical art in the ancient city. The guide informed the guests that the theater in Chersonesos appeared at the turn of the 4th–3rd centuries. BC e. It was built on the slope of a beam, where stone benches for spectators were placed in a semicircle. In front of them there was a platform for the choir and musicians — the orchestra, and the actors performed on a stone platform — the proskenium. Only men who performed both male and female roles could serve in the theater in Ancient Greece. To change the image, the actors used masks with wigs, high-platform shoes — buskins, costumes and much more.
On the main square (agora), workers of cultural institutions of the DPR were told in detail about how an important historical event took place in the ancient city in 988 — the baptism of Prince Vladimir, which had a huge impact on the development of our state. The excursion ended at the Basilica of 1935 and the Fog Bell — the famous symbol and calling card of Tauride Chersonesos.
